Group Classes

Our group classes are most analogous to a standard weekly “team practice” at a school program, but we’ve redesigned every aspect to remove the aimlessness of traditional practices.

  • Content - Covers all debate skills in depth: flowing, weighing, prep, round vision, judge adaptation, narrative building, etc.

  • Engagement - Large focus on practice and active engagement as a core part of the process

  • Teaching style - Small (4:1) student-instructor ratio and high emphasis on personalized learning in every aspect of the session

  • Design - Created from scratch by our instructors to cover what we believe is legitimately helpful, with uncompromising focus on quality above all else

Webinars & Events

We routinely host webinar lectures, Q&As, and events featuring both our own instructors and other acclaimed debaters nationwide.

We hope to meaningfully educate the Massachusetts community in doing so, exposing students to talented debaters who can speak on their own journey the activity.

The purpose of the webinars is to have a uniquely deep dive into something specific, whether it’s a particular debate concept or something about the experience of the activity as a whole. Presenters prepare their own events and have complete control over what they want to cover.

Potential topics this year might include:

  • Introduction to the college debate scene

  • Kritiks and critical theory

  • Theory and progressive debate

  • Writing strategic arguments and cases

  • Improvement and competitive success in debate

  • Introduction to the national circuit

  • Demo debates on current/upcoming topics

  • Advanced lay debate, narrative building, and persuasive speaking

  • Financial inequality in the debate community

  • Guest presentations from student-run partner organizations

  • Rebuttal/summary/final focus deep dive

  • Introduction to frameworks and utilitarianism

  • Round vision and advanced strategy

  • Research skills and evidence

Private Lessons

Our private lessons offer one-on-one access to select instructors on our team with flexible and automated scheduling.

All of our instructors follow their own individual teaching style while mirroring the Sparkwise philosophy of emphasizing critical thinking and idea-driven engagement.

The level of personalization given through one-on-one instruction is incredibly important for debaters in so many different aspects.

While many successful debaters hire private coaches, however, most students does not have widespread access to private coaching.

We’re offering these lessons to try to make one-on-one coaching an institutionally accessible aspect of the debate community.

  • Content - Complete student control over the topic of instruction; instructor creates a custom lesson plan prior to meeting

  • Flexibility - Total choice of instructor, meeting time, and lesson length through individual instructor calendars and automated scheduling

  • Holistic Instruction - Long-term instructor relationships that can cover both topic prep and debate skills

  • First Lesson Free - One free 1-hour lesson with any instructor for everyone as part of Sparkwise’s mission to democratize access to private instruction!
